How a commission works.
The questions Clients ask most, before they begin.
Commissioning
How do I commission a piece? +
Browse the collection, sit with a specimen in the viewer, then begin an inquiry. We respond within two business days to understand the brief, quote privately, and prepare a staged render before anything is cast.
Why are there no prices? +
Every piece is made to order, at a scale and finish chosen with you, so each is priced privately on inquiry.
How long does a commission take? +
Lead time depends on the scale and finish of the piece. We confirm a timeline with your private quote and keep you updated through moulding, casting, finishing, and installation.
Can I commission a species not shown? +
Yes — note it in your inquiry. Where a licensed original mould exists, we can often produce it.
Materials & care
What is the cast made of? +
A hand-finished resin and fibreglass composite, internally reinforced for permanence and safe mounting at scale, then hand-patinated and sealed.
Is it a real fossil? +
No. Every OSSA piece is a cast — a faithful reproduction. We never sell, trade, or deal in real fossils or excavated material.
How do I care for it? +
A cast asks little: dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp, and avoid solvents. Full care notes accompany every delivery.
Can I choose the finish? +
Yes — hand-patinated to the tone you choose: pale bone, fossil-dark, or a bespoke finish matched to the room.
Delivery & installation
Do you deliver and install? +
Yes — worldwide. We crate, ship, install (floor-standing, plinth, vitrine, or suspended), and specify and place the lighting so the cast reads as it should.
What does a piece weigh, and what does it need? +
Weight and mounting vary with the piece — from a few kilograms for a tooth to substantial loads for a full skeleton. We survey the space and structure before casting and engineer the mount for floor, wall, or suspension.
Can you work with my architect or designer? +
Always. We work directly with trade on commissions.
Payment & terms
How does payment work? +
Each commission is staged. Deposit and milestone terms are set out in your private quote and commission agreement, and confirmed in writing before work begins.
What is your return / cancellation policy? +
Every piece is made to order, so cancellation terms reflect the stage of production. The specifics are set out in your commission agreement.
