Stegosaurus — Skull
A narrow head built for the low browse of the Jurassic.
The cast renders the small, low-slung head that crowned a body the length of a bus, its toothless beak set ahead of modest leaf-shaped cheek teeth. The proportion is the marvel here: a skull barely longer than a forearm directing an animal that ran to several tonnes, a reminder of how small a brain steered so vast a frame.
Each surface is hand-finished, the sutures and the slender snout brought up cleanly so the piece reads as an anatomical study at close range and a quiet sculptural object from across the room.
Stegosaurus carried a notably small brain for its size, often likened to a walnut, set within a body that reached several tonnes.
Its mouth combined a horn-covered beak at the front with small, peg-like teeth set back in the jaws, suited to cropping low vegetation rather than extensive chewing.
The head was carried low, reflecting a browser adapted to ferns, cycads and other near-ground Late Jurassic plants.
