Brachiosaurus — Skull
The high browser's quiet, vaulted crown.
A cast of the distinctive arched skull, its tall nasal arch rising above the eyes and its broad, chisel-edged tooth rows set in a muzzle built for stripping high foliage. Compact against the immensity of the animal that carried it, the piece rewards close reading, the curve of the cranial crest and the spatulate teeth resolving into focus at arm's length.
Each cast is hand-finished to bring out the suture lines and the subtle texture of the bone surface, so the form reads as considered rather than reproduced.
The bony nostril openings sat high on the skull, set above the eyes, an arrangement that drew early speculation about an aquatic life since set aside.
Its broad, spoon-shaped teeth were suited to cropping vegetation rather than chewing, with food processed in the gut.
The skull is among the rarer elements of a sauropod skeleton to be recovered, which makes well-preserved cranial material especially prized.
