Spinosaurus — Skull
The long-jawed crown of a river hunter.
This cast renders the elongate, crocodile-like skull at full scale, its narrow snout lined with conical, interlocking teeth suited to seizing slick prey. A rosette of enlarged teeth at the jaw tip and a low ridge along the snout give the piece a profile unlike any other predator, reading at once as reptile and as something stranger.
Each cast is hand-finished, the tooth rows and bone texture brought up by hand so the surface holds the eye across the full length of the jaw.
The skull was long and narrow, with retracted nostrils set high and well back from the snout tip, consistent with a life spent hunting in and around water.
Its teeth were conical and largely lacked the fine serrations seen in most large theropods, better suited to gripping fish than slicing flesh.
Small openings near the snout tip have been interpreted as housing pressure-sensitive nerves that may have aided in detecting prey in murky water.
