Triceratops — Bone
A single element from a giant, scaled to the hand.
An isolated skeletal element cast at a little under three feet, presenting the dense, load-bearing structure of an animal that walked on solid columns of bone. Held or set on a stand, it offers an intimate study of form and proportion away from the scale of the full mount.
Hand-finished and toned, the surface preserves the texture and contour of the original element with quiet fidelity.
Triceratops limb bones were thick and weight-bearing, supporting an animal that may have approached nine tons in life.
The genus was named in 1889 by Othniel Charles Marsh, the name meaning three-horned face.
Triceratops is among the most abundant dinosaurs recovered from the Hell Creek Formation of the North American west.
