Velociraptor — Skull
Nine inches of low, narrow jaw lined with recurved teeth.
The cast captures a long, shallow skull tapering to a slender snout, the upturned profile and broad eye sockets distinctive to this Mongolian predator. The jaws carry rows of finely serrated teeth that curve backward, a detail held crisp in the casting and best appreciated at close range on a shelf or in a vitrine.
Hand-finishing brings out the texture of the bone and the fine sutures across the braincase, so the piece rewards study rather than merely occupying space.
The largest known Velociraptor skull is around 23 centimetres long, low and flat with a slightly concave upper profile unusual among predatory dinosaurs.
Its teeth are more strongly serrated along the rear edge than the front, an asymmetry typical of dromaeosaurid hunters.
Large eye sockets and studies of the sclerotic ring suggest Velociraptor may have been active in low light, possibly at dusk or dawn.
